Planning & Zoning / Code Enforcement
A building permit is required by the City of Picayune for all types of renovations, additions, or new construction. The permits are sold in the office of the Building Inspector located at 200 Hwy 11 South or online through our Citizen/Contractor Portal.
The cost of the permit is based on the estimated cost of the building project. Bring your estimate with you when you apply for a permit. Electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work also require a permit. The City Inspector must inspect all work to ensure standards and codes are met. Our phone number for information on all permits is 601-798-9777.

If you are building an addition, you will need plans showing the distance (setbacks) of all structures on your lot to property lines. Include the dimensions of the new addition.
All commercial construction has to be approved by the Site Plan Review Committee. Please call or come in for a checklist of information required for Commercial Plans. The Site Plan Review Committee meets every Wednesday. Your plans must be in our office no later than 10 am, the Friday before the Wednesday meeting. After the Committee has approved your plans, please bring in proof of insurance to obtain your permit.
